James IV of New Britannia was the fourteenth Monarch of New Britannia. Born to Henry II, James spent his life prior to becoming King preparing for his role. Upon his ascension to the throne, he oversaw an immediate attack on several Britannian holdings in order to expand his influence within the Britannian Empire. Meanwhile, within New Britannia, like his predecessors he oversaw continued expansion, pushing farthest to the west, though also overseeing expansion in Laurentia and to the south. James would become heavily involved in the new Cult of the Bindings that had grown highly popular within his realm, and would patronize it greatly, increasing its church's influence. His reign would include several wars with the Laurentian Natives and several small tribal bands encountered in other new territories, though most of the fighting in his reign would occur in Ancientia as he, the first New Britannian monarch to do so, battled to protect the remaining Britannian territory, both under his control and outside of it, from falling to the continents barbarians. As a result of these actions , he managed to convince even the Britannian's outside of his control to name him Potentate of the Britannian Empire, which would remain a title of the New Britannian monarch until the Britannian Empire's remnants were absorbed into New Britannia officially. He would die in 282 1ENB, succeeded by his son, Henry III.
